The Peleides Blue Morpho butterfly is famous for its dazzling, iridescent blue wings — a colorcreated not by pigment, but by microscopic scales that reflect and scatter light like a natural mirror. The Peleides Blue Morpho butterfly feeds mainly on the juices of rotting fruit, sipping them with its long proboscis. Its caterpillars, however, prefer to munch on the leaves of legume plants.
The Thoas Swallowtail butterfly is a strong and graceful flier, often seen gliding effortlessly with its distinctive yellow and black wings — a pattern that helps it mimic toxic species and avoid predators.
The Thoas Swallowtail butterfly feeds on the nectar of brightly colored flowers, using its long proboscis to reach deep into blossoms. Its caterpillars primarily eat the leaves of citrus and other rutaceous plants.
The Red Lacewing butterfly feeds on flower nectar, especially from lantanas and other brightly colored blooms. Its caterpillars typically eat the leaves of passionflower vines. An interesting fact: The Red Lacewing’s vibrant red, orange, and black wings warn predators of its toxicity — a defense it gains from the poisonous plants its caterpillars consume.
